Freshman Joey Calistri's goal in the 30th minute held up as the Northwestern men's soccer team beat 7th-seeded Marquette in the second round of the NCAA tournament Sunday in Milwaukee.
The win put the Wildcats (13-5-4) into the third round against the Louisville-Winthrop winner next Sunday.? It is the farthest Northwestern has advanced in the tourney since a third-round exit in 2009.
Calistri pounced on the rebound of a free kick by fellow Deerfield High School grad Scott Lakin, a junior, and drilled a one-touch shot into the upper right corner.
It was the ninth goal of the season for Calistri, the team's leading scorer.
The Wildcats also won their first-round game 1-0 over Western Illinois.
