For more than 50 years, John Soneff not only kept the Hudson flame alive at his garage in Denver, but also coordinated and conducted collector car auctions all over the country. Yet it will be another collector-car auction company ? Auctions America ? which will disperse Soneff?s Hudson collection next month.
According to his bio on the website for Soneff?s Master Garage, the collector car dealership he founded in Denver, Soneff worked with a number of auction companies over the years, including Barrett-Jackson, Keith McCormick?s Palm Springs auction, Leake in Tulsa, and the Imperial Palace?s auctions, along with the Denver Collector Car Auction. According to the Denver Post, Soneff sold Soneff?s Master Garage several years ago for $2.5 million to a private investment firm, but then immediately opened up a new shop across the alley to continue working on, buying, selling, and promoting Hudsons. Soneff, who many described as grouchy yet accommodating, died last June at the age of 85.

Of the 17 cars from Soneff?s collection that will appear at the auction, 12 come from the white triangle brand, including two 1950 Commodore 8 Convertible Broughams (one with Hudson?s revolutionary Super-matic automatic transmission); a 1946 Commodore 8 Convertible Brougham with just 46,000 miles; and a 1949 Commodore 6 Convertible Brougham.
For those preferring hardtop Hudsons, the Soneff Collection will also feature a 1937 Hudson Super Terraplane Sedan, a 1947 Super 8 Sedan (offered at no reserve) and four Hudson Hornet models, including a 1954 Hornet Special 6 Club Sedan, a 1952 Hornet 6 Hollywood (with two doors and wraparound rear glass), a 1951 Hornet 6 Sedan (at no reserve) and a 1953 Hornet 6 Sedan with the Twin H power package and Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, reportedly Soneff?s last restoration project.

Among the Hudson cars will also be a 1939 Hudson Model 98 ?Big Boy? three-quarter-ton pickup, said to be one of three 1939 Hudson pickups remaining. In addition to the cars and pickup, the auction will also offer 50 lots of memorabilia from Soneff?s collection.
